He made a vow to the Lord, saying: If thou wilt deliver the children of Ammon into my hands,
31 Whosoever shall first come forth out of the doors of my house, and shall meet me when I return in peace from the children of Ammon, the same will I offer a holocaust to the Lord.

But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, nor by the earth, nor by any other oath. But let your speech be, yea, yea: no, no: that you fall not under judgment.

It amazes me how often the reading of OT and NT scriptures fit together.

I know – I didn’t really appreciate that until I followed this plan last year. I rarely read the OT on my own (though I was familiar with it from mass readings). But it’s different now, having read it through several times from start-to-finish. I have a real appreciation for it now that I didn’t before.
